Recreational Area Studies - Central Indiana
Planning for this recreation area incorporated several outdoor facilities for residents within a neighborhood of fourteen homes situated on a one hundred seventy five acre tract. The client desired multiple facilities for recreational activities on a site with a number of development constraints. The parcel, a former gravel pit, occasionally floods, is currently overrun with Canadian geese and is being overtaken with non-native invasive plant species.
Proposed facilities were designed to endure occasional flooding. The combination of beach wall and shoreline plantings keep the geese in the water and out of the recreation areas. The beach pavilion is the central focal point of the design while the beach wall provides access to the shoreline, fishing pier and boat dock. Courts for basketball, lawn bowling, croquet and tennis flank the central beach pavilion. A neighborhood park path provides convenient access to residents whether on foot, bike or golf cart.
