8 Acre Private Estate Residence - Indianapolis, Indiana Remenschneider Associates assisted the client in establishing a design program that capitalizes on the property features and development potential of the site. The clients design program included the creation of an arrival experience that unfolds gradually, enframement of views to site features, screening the home from public view and development of a variety of outdoor rooms for resident and guest enjoyment. Screening the home from public view while providing vehicular access to the residence proved to be quite a challenging task due to the size and height of the structure and its location on the highest point within the surrounding neighborhood. Utilizing a combination of frontage retaining walls, evergreen plantings and a meandering drive, Remenschneider Associates delivered a unique arrival experience that also successfully screens the home from public view. Three strikingly different outdoor living spaces respond to the distinct architecture of the home. The arrival sequence culminates in an auto court water feature consisting of three limestone monoliths bathed in cascading waterfalls carved by an Indiana sculptor. The walled Zen garden provides a serene setting with a view to the east greensward beyond. Finally, the white pine garden is terraced down a hillside and oriented toward the lake below. A tea house, perched above the terraced native verdure provides a vantage point from which to enjoy the architecture of the home and the native woodland sweeping down the hillside. |
